Nia and Sanna: Day Trippin’

On the agenda today is: Ernst & Young, Lunch, Olympic Park Bus Tour, Dinner at The Maple Leaf pub, and Let It Be at the Savoy Theatre.

To start the day we headed out to Ernst & Young (EY), across the street from City Hall near London Bridge. We were met by Robin’s sister, Julie Furby, who organized the presentations for us. During the presentations we learned about the culture of EY, their Entrepreneur of the Year award (the most prestigious award worldwide), the Mid-Market Team, their Growing Beyond Borders program which helps businesses see beyond their current capabilities, EY’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and actions, and a tour of the building. All very interesting with a variety of guest speakers from the firm, learning the business side of EY and how they’re targeting university graduates when hiring was of great value to us.

Following that, we went downstairs to the canteen for lunch and revelled at the cheap prices for the quality of food. There was much talk amongst the tables of how Capilano U could benefit from seeing a place like this.

After that, we made our way out to Stratford to get on the Olympic Park bus tour. Unfortunately, most of Olympic Park is under construction as it’s being turned into new residential areas. One interesting fact about it is that there are two light poles in the grounds exactly 100 metres apart. The lights switch on and off at the speed of Usain Bolt’s Olympic 100m dash. If you ever want to know how fast he really is…come to London and try it for yourself!

Once that was over, we headed back to our hotel for a quick freshen up before making our way into central London for dinner at the Maple Leaf pub. To our dismay, the only hockey jerseys on display were the Maple Leafs, the Canadiennes, and the Oilers… blasphemous, we know!

After dinner, we walked down the street to the Savoy Theatre to see Let It Be…and homage to the Beatles. It was FANTASTIC! We weren’t sure what to expect for the show, but when the quartet came on stage, we were transported back to the 1960s. Not only did they look the part, their voices and execution of the four’s mannerisms were above and beyond what we expected. It was amazing to compare the lads on stage to the live footage playing on old school teles hanging above them. They took us on a journey from the birth of the Beatles through the decades of their genius.

As MASSIVE Beatles fans, it was as if we were watching them live. We would definitely do that again!

Another long day over, hard to believe the trip’s almost at an end. Tomorrow, we’re on to Primark, a walking tour, and the London Eye.
