Shifa and Shakeeta: Touch Down in London Town

All twenty-two of us arrived at Heathrow airport safely after our nice and a half hour journey from YVR. The flight was smooth and most of us got a few hours of sleep in; the only mishap was Qi's lost luggage. She handled it like a champ and moved on to our hotel in Greenwich.

We hopped onto three vans and made our one hour journey to the IBIS Hotel, our home for the next ten days. After assembling and settling into our rooms, we met as a group for our first meeting in London. We went over some guidelines and what to expect this upcoming week.

Our first view of london was already breath taking. We have seen a lot in pictures from social media and tv and heard from others about how life is like in this city, but there is nothing like experiencing a new country for yourself. We assumed that culture shock would not be highly evident due to this city being similar to ours in terms of language and lifestyle, but we ended up being wrong. The British culture has very slight differences which we had not expected, such as the way people here interact with each other or even how 'the tube' culture is completely different than ours at home.  Our next eight days are fully packed with sight-seeing, meetings and presentations in various companies and monuments around central London. There is so much to see and do this on trip and we could not ask for a greater group. The group dynamics are already growing and meshing together and we can tell right off that bat that this trip is going to be absolutely memorable!

Shifa and Shakeeta are both third year Bachelor of Business Administration students.  They are participating in the Capilano University London Field School.
