Qi and Angelia: Team London 2014

Today’s song: Birthday song

It was an exciting day for all of our group members, who were getting ready to depart to London for our 10 day Field School.  Today, Angelia and I are the daily leaders, a task where every student will ge the chance to lead the group though the day's activities.  Because our day fell on a travel day, we created check lists, took some pens for writing on boarding/customs card, and brought snacks for our group to assist them through our 10+ hour journey.

After completing two exams in the morning for our classes, we arrived at YVR very early - 1:00PM for our 6:15 pm flight.  We found the Air Canada counters and sent the location on Facebook.  After having lunch, we sat near the check in counters to wait for our friends. Mason was the first to arrive, then Robin, our field school leader.  Slowly our group started to trickle in.  Angelia worked hard on her check list, and I worked on delivering the Polo shirts. We caught Richard and Jonathan, when they passed us, and talked with Shifa’s parents about taking care of her on the way.  Shifa had fell very ill prior to this trip but recovered in time to be able to join us! Directing the students to the check-in counters reminded me the old days  when I worked at a bank directing customers.
Robin surprised us with our Team London 2014 banner. We took a group photo and signed the banner before departing for security check.
It was an exciting and nervous day for the both of us. Although it was not the first time to lead a team, it was the first time to lead a foreign team in a foreign country in English, which is our second language. We tried our best to do it, and I think it was not bad. I saw the smiles faces when I did the very last part, which was sending the snack before boarding. I even remembered Richard said “Great job” to us, and it made us very happy.

The group arrived in London while leaving two things behind at YVR:  The birthday song for Laurel and Qi's suitcase.

Qi Chen and Angelia Ren are both second year Tourism Management for International students.  They are participating in the Capilano University London Field School.
