Nicholas Cross: Carpe Diem

There have been some changes over the last month, with just a few of them being that I’ve met people from around the world, visited new places, and turned the significant age of 21 in the USA. This blog is going to talk about the 21st birthday I had at the University of California Riverside and the events that surrounded it.

Turning 21 in the states was brilliant. I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to celebrate it as I thought we would be too busy to do anything important, instead not only did we take a cab to downtown riverside to have an awesome meal in an Italian restaurant (which was far too fancy for a rowdy bunch of UCR students…) but it just so happened that we had planned a trip to Las Vegas that weekend. A point I am trying to make is that although we were always busy while in Riverside there was always free time to plan a trip we just had to make use of every moment and seize the day.

Going to downtown riverside was an easy process, all we had to do was call two cabs to downtown and we arrived at the beautiful mission inn. The pictures below will show you the building and inside the Italian restaurant:

Planning a trip to Vegas required a lot more communication between people but we still managed to pull it off and have an amazing time. We all gathered in a room at the comfort inn and decided on a hotel (The Excalibur on the Las Vegas Strip) then we decided on a car rental place and who was going to drive two cars to Vegas. I was chosen to drive one of the cars with Alysha driving the other car; I had the pleasure of driving a dodge charger through the desert to Vegas which was an experience in itself with Oscar as my co-pilot we put on a sweet playlist and made it there in record time.
Once we arrived in Vegas and checked in after a long day of travelling we headed straight down to the casino then wandered down Las Vegas Boulevard to see the sights, and the rest I am not at liberty to say because ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’
After the weekend was over we headed back in a dishevelled state but the drive back was just as amazing as the ride there. We then made it back to UCR and joined everybody else from the group to work on presentations which were then finished and presented over the following two days. So it is possible to mix work with play during the first two weeks of the program, my advice is to seize every opportunity as these opportunities are what he trip and life is all about.
