Alycia Perry: The Most Magical Experience at the Most Magical Place on Earth

This has been the most amazing educational and work experience I have had in my entire life. Disney World is by far the one of the best places to interact with Guests and Cast Members, enjoy the work you are participating in, and have fun all the way through.  The time I have spent here may be short, only just over one month now, but I have learned a lot about myself and about customer service in general. I have also learned a lot from the people around me about their cultures and differences. We are all one big family of Disney Cast Members living in a close community. I am living at Vista Way apartments with three other roommates and two of them are from Vancouver and one from Morocco! There are so many different cultures here and I enjoy learning about each and every one.

The University of California, Riverside provided insight and knowledge about the tourism industry itself as well as different ways to provide excellent customer service. I completed this schooling on July 15, 2011. We paired up into groups of 5-7 to address any tourism related topic to a specific destination. We had to present this in front of 100+ people. I always was afraid of speaking in front of crowds, but this gave me so much more confidence in my speaking than any other class I have taken. We decided to present about adventure and ecotourism in Vancouver, B.C. I had received an A- for the period of the two week program at University of California, Riverside, which I was very excited about! The faculty is very helpful and interested in helping any of the students with their studies and has always just been there for you to talk to about anything.
My Cast Member role is Front Desk Cashier at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and I will soon become a Concierge. The other Cast Members are very friendly and play their parts equally. I have met some amazing people that I now look up to. Work may be challenging, but I love a good challenge.

Disney provides their Cast Members with discounts and free entries to the parks so we never have a boring day while we are here! There is so much to do and see in Orlando it is incredible. First I visited the Magic Kingdom and went on exciting rides, met some of the Princesses, and watched the amazing unforgettable nightly fireworks presented at the Magic Castle. Every time I watch the fireworks it makes me remember how it was when I first watched them as a child. I have also been to the Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach Water Park where I took the 120 foot Summit Plummet plunge, which was hands down one of the scariest experiences of my life.

Just the other night I got to escort a family of eight to our 87 foot tall roof top to watch the fireworks at Magic Kingdom. Making people’s vacations and putting smiles on their faces is truly the best feeling I could possibly ask for. Children are the future of our world and I love being a part of their memories and dreams.

Overall I am extremely happy I decided to take this opportunity, when I wasn’t sure of it at the time, I am definitely sure this is the perfect fit for me now. I couldn’t be any happier in the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” Walt Disney has brought magic to us all.
