Frankie Lam: Communication

One of the biggest highlights from the trip was the issues that always occurred when a big group of people traveling together. For instance, different people wanted to do different thing and people have different personality and different life style. All these things make traveling with a group of people harder. Therefore, it is important to have strong and excellent communication to handle the situation. Before the trip, I didn’t expect we would have so many problems because I always thought when a group of people traveling together for a period of time would get along well.

                From this trip, I learned that communication is extremely important and useful. During the trip, we have had a few group discussions which people would be completely honest and discussed the problem and came up with solution. I found that was really useful to clear the misunderstanding and to solve the problem. In Chinese culture, people don’t usually discuss the problem with others. Therefore, I thought the method of having an honest talk in a group is absolutely useful and effective.

                The communication problem made me understand how important it is to have a good communication skill. With a good communication skill, people can get along easier and would be able to solve the problems and misunderstandings between the groups. Also, the Canton Fair made me understand if you try hard, there is always opportunity to success. Before the trip, I always thought there are more business opportunities in Asia. It might be true actually, but I would like to say it all depends on how hard you try. You can always find opportunity anywhere anytime.
