Mia Cvijetic: Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Sending in your application to the Study Abroad Office is the first step, perhaps the easiest.  After receiving your acceptance letter and admitting to your self that you are about to leave the country for a few months and then packing your bags is step 2.  Saying good bye is step 3.

Step 3 is one of the hardest steps to cross.   Now you are sitting in your new home and waiting for classes to start...be proud of yourself, you’ve come a far way.   ECE Bordeaux was really good with putting on events for all the international/Erasmus student to interact with others and the French students.  I strongly suggest that you attend these events and interact with not only the Erasmus students but the French students as well.

You will naturally first start interacting with the Erasmus students because you are sharing this experience together; however, you will also learn a lot more about Bordeaux if you step outside your comfort zone and interact with the ECE students.  I also suggest that you explore France and Europe as much as you can.  You will get a lot of time off for this.  There are great low cost airlines you can take that take you to many amazing places.  There are many beautiful places to see within France- Close to Bordeaux you can visit Dune de Pyla and Arcachon.  Look into getting a 12/25 card- it’s available at any train station in France.

Overall, I want to tell any student looking to travel abroad three things: be open minded, travel as much as you can and stay safe!
